What is Banking?
There is always someone at any given time that needs money to kick off a new venture, and there is always someone with surplus money who’s not earning anything. To deposit/seek loan of money, both these parties may approach a bank. Thus, it’s best to define banks in terms of their primary purpose: to mobilise the surplus savings of the populace and redirect them into development and national growth.
At the customer interface, banks roll out services such as various deposit accounts, loans, custody of personal items and documents etc. and it’s the jobs within this interface that shall be discussed here.
How to start a career in Banking?
Good marks graduation almost mandatory for a good job, but that’s only the beginning. Applicants to banking courses must undergo a vigorous testing process merely to qualify. The banking exam covers reasoning, quantitative aptitude, general awareness, English, and a descriptive test. The reasoning test contains verbal elements while the others are objective. To make it accessible to all students, the test can be answered in either English or Hindi.
Banking Career in India
Private banking recruitment usually happens directly though and they give a preference to candidates with an MBA, CA and/or even better, to candidates with a few years work experience in the public sector. This recruitment is at officer level and leads to extremely profitable careers.
Other graduates can find job opportunities in positions such as clerks, home banking and personal banking…or even marketing.
